No extra money for parents in Romania who end maternity leave earlier

05 September 2016

Romania’s Government disagrees with the draft project aiming to stimulate the return to work before the end of maternity leave by providing additional funds.

According to the bill, parents who return to work before the end of maternity leave would get half of the remaining allowance that they would receive if they stayed home, reports local Profit.ro.

The draft project aimed to change the current reward system. This offers parents returning to work earlier a monthly reinsertion bonus, which represents 85% of the gross minimum wage. The Government disagreed with the new bill, arguing that the bill’s authors didn’t mention the funding sources for the new measures.

The Parliament decided earlier this year to remove the cap on maternity leave benefits.
