Hungarian low-cost airline Wizz Air continued to increase its business in Romania last year as it carried some 4.5 million people to and from Romanian airports, 16% more compared to 2014, according to a company announcement.

The increase was supported by new routes launched during the year and by the company’s decision to allocate more aircrafts to its bases in Romania. In March 2015, Wizz Air had 17 planes serving its local bases. The company recently announced it would set up a new base in Iasi, in July 2016.

Wizz Air currently operates 107 routes to 16 countries from 8 airports in Romania. The company is the leading air carrier in Romania.

At the same time, Romania is the second biggest market for Wizz Air after Poland. The airline carried a total of 19.2 million passengers in 2015, up from 15.8 million in 2014.
