Watching the Brazil 2014 World Cup from Romania – broadcasters & schedules

12 June 2014

The World Cup, which will keep all football fans busy until mid-July, starts today – June 12, 2014. Daily football matches take place in Brazil, which hosts this year’s World Cup.

In Romania, matches will be broadcast late in the evening, because of the time difference. The opening match, between Brazil and Croatia, will be broadcast today, June 12, at 23,00, Romania time.

For the first stage of the tournament, broadcast hours vary between 19,00 in the evening, and 04,00 in the morning, Romania time. Most matches however will be broadcast locally at 22,00 – 23,00. The full schedule of matches is here (you can change to local time, and the system will use the location based on your IP to calculate the local time)

The Romanian state TV company TVR and the Digi Sport channels will be the official  broadcasters for the World Cup in Romania.

The schedule of the matches to be broadcast by TVR, and the channels where they can be watched can be found here (in pdf, in Romania, but quite easy to follow).

The matches will also be available online, on the TVR+ platform,  as well as on their iOS and Android application.

In total, TVR will broadcast 64 football matches from the World Cup. Romania has not qualified for the World Cup this year.

UPDATE: Many pubs and terraces in Bucharest show the matches live. Probably the biggest screen for public viewing the World Cup in Bucharest was installed in the Universitate Square, within the Poiana Urbana gathering. Some pictures below.
