US vice-president promises to support Black Sea cooperation

25 May 2016

Romania has asked for and received the US support to strengthen the Black Sea cooperation, namely the military cooperation at navel level, Prime Minister Dacian Ciolos said after meeting US vice-president Joe Biden at the White House yesterday.

Ciolos asked Biden for the US support in convincing NATO to strengthen its presence on all the eastern flank, from the Baltic Sea to the Black Sea. He told Biden about the steps that Romania had already made in collaboration with Bulgaria and Turkey.

A NATO summit will take place in July in Warsaw and the Alliance’s strategy in Eastern Europe will be one of the main topics.
