UniCredit plans to expand operations in Romania

21 January 2016

Italian banking group UniCredit plans to expand operations in Romania, as well as in other Central and Eastern (CEE) countries such as Slovakia, the Czech Republic and Croatia.

“Central and Eastern Europe remains a key region for UniCredit,” said Carlo Vivaldi, head of the CEE division within UniCredit, reports local Profit.ro.

In Romania, the bank plans to grow organically, but it will also focus on buying credit portfolios. The Italian group also considers acquiring bank units but only in the Czech Republic and Slovakia.

At the end of last year, Unicredit Romania sold a package of non-performing loans of over EUR 300 million to the Polish group Kredyt Inkaso.
