Romanian PM: Govt. will challenge law increasing salaries in public sector

09 November 2016

Romanian Prime Minister Dacian Ciolos announced on Tuesday that the Government needs to ask for a constitutional review of the law that approves the emergency ordinance no.20, which increases the salaries in education and the healthcare sector by 15% on average.

“The control concerns only the law that amends the emergency ordinance,” Ciolos said.

The amendments brought to the emergency ordinance recreate, or in some cases, widen the salary wage gaps that the Government has tried to correct, the PM explained.

“We’ve tried to fix one thing, and now we’re starting again, and in the next years, we’ll need to resume these talks about how we fix inequalities in the healthcare sector, education, and in the other areas,” Ciolos added.

According to him, the law’s impact on the budget amounts to over EUR 1 billion.
