Nicusor Dan, the Save Bucharest Union – USB’s mayor candidate ranks second in the race for Bucharest with 19.5% of the vote intentions, according to a survey conducted by TNS.

He is above the National Liberal Party (PNL) candidate Catalin Predoiu, who has a score of 8.7%, but behind the Social Democrat Party (PSD) candidate Gabriela Firea, who would take some 37.5% of the votes, reports local Hotnews.ro.

The survey was commissioned by USB and was conducted on a sample of 800 people.

Nicusor Dan is a mathematics researcher and civil society activist. He ran for the office four years ago as an independent candidate, but lost to Sorin Oprescu, who is now indicted for corruption.

PNL’s candidate Catalin Predoiu is a lawyer and a former justice minister in Emil Boc’s Government. The social-democrat candidate Gabriela Firea is a former TV presenter. She is married to Florentin Pandele, the mayor of Voluntari, a town near Bucharest.
