The number of building permits issued for residential buildings fell by 5.6 percent in the first eight months of 2011, down to 27,167, compared to the same period last year, according to the National Statistics Institute (INS).

In August this year, 4,345 building permits were issued for residential buildings, up by 11.9 percent month-on-month, and down 7 percent from August last year. Significant decreases were reported in the several areas of development, namely the Northeast area, where were reported with 200 permits less than the same period in 2010, South-Muntenia  and South-West Oltenia. Slight increases were recorded in the Northwest development area, West and Bucharest-Ilfov area, according to INS.
