No holiday for Romania’s Government this summer

06 July 2016

Romania’s Prime Minister Dacian Ciolos has asked his ministers not to take holidays this summer, according to government sources quoted by Hotnews.ro.

“This Government’s mandate is so short that we can stay without holidays this year,” Ciolos said in the Government meeting on Wednesday, according to the same sources.

The PM’s request came just one day after he sacked four of his ministers. Ciolos motivated his decision saying that his cabinet needed to start producing results and that he wanted a new momentum in his cabinet.

He also warned that he would take other such decisions in the following months if needed. Ciolos has already changed eight ministers from his initial team that was voted by the Parliament in November 2015 after Victor Ponta’s resignation.

The Prime Minister together with President Klaus Iohannis and Romania’s National Bank Governor Mugur Isarescu launched on Tuesday the “Competitive Romania” country project aimed at providing sustainable economic growth in the following years. The measures to be included in this project will be discussed in the following months.
