New solar lighting system in Bucharest to cut public lighting costs by 30%

A solar lighting system will soon be put into use in Bucharest, which will reduce street lighting costs by 30 percent, the first area being Matei Basarab St., according to Sorin Oprescu, the Mayor of Bucharest. He added that a new lightning system was necessary, consisting in replacing bulbs with solar lamps, which will reduce costs and consumer spending by 30 percent.

For a neighborhood with many parks or recreational areas, the cost of this new system will be on average about EUR 600,000 to EUR 630,000, according to Sorin Oprescu.
