How much do companies in Romania lose on their employees “sick days”?

13 January 2016

The employee absenteeism rate in Romania, reflecting the percentage of days of absence out of the total working days in a year, reached 2.2% last year, down from 2.4% in 2014, according to the PwC Saratoga study.

“The absenteeism rate in Romania, which includes both unmotivated leave, as well as medical leave, is similar to the rates of other countries in the region. Even so, absenteeism continues to generate significant costs for companies,” said Horaţiu Cocheci, Senior Manager, Human Resources Consulting Team Leader at PwC Romania.

The cost of absenteeism is estimated at over EUR 700 per employee at the level of the entire market.

The cost is lower in the retail sector, at EUR 440 per employee, but it reaches EUR 1,132 in the pharma sector. The cost is proportional to the average salary in the sector.
