Court rules against Romanian football player Mutu in EUR 17 mln fine case

Romanian football player Adrian Mutu will have to pay EUR 17 million to football club Chelsea London after the Switzerland Federal Court has rejected Mutu's appeal on the initial decision.

Mutu, who used to play for Chelsea Football Club, was found positive in an anti doping control in 2004, one year after starting his contract with Chelsea. Mutu was suspended for seven months from playing football after using cocaine. Chelsea club filed a request for financial damages against Mutu in 2006 for breaking the work contract.

Adrian Mutu is now playing for AC Fiorentina football club. Chealse had bought Mutu from AC Parma in 2003 for 15.8 million sterling pounds and canceled the contract in October 2004.
