Car traffic affected by street protests today; see what streets to avoid

Car traffic will be stopped on several streets downtown Bucharest today for the planned street rally. Traffic on Calea Victoriei, between Victoriei Square and Dem. I Dobrescu St. will be shut down, but cars will still be able to cross the intersections with Gheorghe Manu St., Dacia boulevard and Ion Campineanu St.

No cars will be allowed on George Enescu St., between Magheru boulevard and Calea Victoriei, on Stirbei Voda St., between Ion Campineanu St. and Calea Victoriei, as well as on Benjamin Franklin St. and CA Rosetti, between Calea Victoriei and Nicolae Balcescu boulevard.

Traffic will be restricted in these areas from 10,00 hours.  Between 14,00 and 15,00 hours, protesters will move to Victoriei Square, so car traffic will be restricted between Universitate Square - Nicolae Balcescu - Gheorghe Magheru – Romana Square - Victoriei Square, on the way from Universitate to Victoriei.

Protest rallies are expected in Bucharest today, with around 20,000 set to take part. The Free Trade Unions will stage the street protests together with the unionists confederations. Most of those expected to join the protest are public servants dissatisfied with the recent 25 percent salary cuts.
