NY Review Books highlights Bucharest bookstore

07 May 2018

The Cărturești & Friends bookstore in Bucharest has been picked as the Indie of the Month in the newsletter sent by the New York Review Books, the publishing house of The New York Review of Books.

The bookstore opened last year, accommodating the Anthony Frost English-language bookshop, the Receptor micro-gallery and the Brewtiful.Cafe boutique coffee bar.

“We’ve already seen this place transform into an information center for expats and tourists visiting Bucharest as well as a bridge connecting Romanian authors and artists to other cultures and a place where we can introduce new foreign authors that we love to the Romanian people,” Vlad Niculescu, the bookstore manager, explains in the newsletter.

Earlier this year, Cărturești was shortlisted for the Bookstore of the Year award at the London Book Fair. The award went to the Uppsala English Bookshop in Sweden.
