Bucharest, last in EU for air quality and noise

Bucharest ranks last among European capitals in terms of air quality and noise, as perceived by its inhabitants, according to data released on Friday by EU’s statistical office Eurostat.

Only 22% of the people living in Bucharest are happy with the air quality in their city. By comparison, 88% of the inhabitants of Dublin, Vienna, and Helsinki are satisfied about the air quality in these cities.

Sofia ranks second-to-last, with 28% of its inhabitants happy about the quality of the air. The Bulgarian capital is followed by Paris (30%), Madrid (31%), and Rome (32%).

In terms of noise, Bucharest ranks last in EU, with 31% of the people living in the Romanian capital saying that they are happy about the noise level. Sofia comes next, with 36%, and Athens is third-to-last, with 43%.

At the opposite end, 82% of Dubliners are happy with the noise level in their city.
