Western Romania city plans tourist app

22 May 2018

The City Hall of Timișoara, in western Romania, plans to launch an app to serve the tourists visiting the city. It has launched an auction for the project, with a budget of RON 100,000 (EUR 21,500).

The app should be a bilingual, Romanian and English one. The users should be able to use it as an audio guide, as a collection of recommendations, or to find tourist routes. The app should also allow integration with booking and ticketing systems. The bids can be submitted until June 25th, at 15:00.

Timișoara has seen an increasing number of tourists and more are expected as the city will be a European Capital of Culture in 2021. Serbian, German, or British tourists visit the city, especially during the weekend. Many of them resort to guides, in the absence of an app to present the city or of information panels.

At the beginning of last year, the county of Cluj, also in western Romania, launched its tourist app, available in five languages.
