Romanian city hall employees plan general strike due to “discrimination”

15 June 2016

The National Federation of Unions in Public Administration (FNSA) plans to start a general strike in July at the national level because the Government has refused to solve the wage demands of people working in local municipalities.

According to FNSA president Valer Suciu, the recently adopted law on public wages has discriminated the employees of local municipalities versus the employees working in the central public administration.

FNSA demands 25% increases in the salaries of civil servants and contractual staff of local administration. Its requests also include holiday and food vouchers.

The National Federation of Unions in Public Administration has 35,000 members at national level, including employees of city halls, county councils, and other local institutions.
