Nearly half of schools in Romania will be equipped with solar panels, minister says

14 March 2017

A total of 4,000 schools in Romania will be equipped with solar panels starting this year, this representing almost half of the total number of schools in the country, environment minister Daniel Constantin said on Tuesday. The program will be called “The Green School,” reports local Agerpres.

“We’re currently planning to launch a program aiming at equipping 4,000 schools with electrical panels, I believe that there are 9,000 nationwide. We want to finance the program with money from the Environment Fund,” Daniel Constantin said.

However, when asked if he’s referring to electrical or solar panels, the minister said that he was talking about solar panels.

The Green School program, as well as six other national programs could be financed with money from the Environment Fund or with money the Ministry of Finance makes from selling certificates for emissions of carbon dioxide.

Earlier this month, education minister Pavel Nastase said that the Government is currently working on a program that would bring Wi-Fi Internet in all schools in Romania.
