Passenger traffic went up by 10 percent on the Otopeni airport in the first six months of the year, while the smaller Baneasa airport saw a traffic increase of only three percent. The two airports together welcomed 3.1 million passengers in the first half of the year. Traffic estimation for the entire year point to 6.7 million passengers.

Bike sharing has become an increasingly popular activity in Bucharest. I'Velo's bike sharing centers saw as many as 15,000 people using their bikes in the first week of August across Romania. Half of the users for I'Velo's free bikes were from Bucharest. Iasi and Cluj – Napoca followed with over 2,000 rentals each during the first week of August. Constanta came among last, with a bot over 1,000 rentals and, Targu Mures, with just below 800.

Drug producer Terapia Ranbaxy grew its sales by 21 percent in the first half of the year in Romania, to USD 48 million, according to the company's most recent financial report. The company was helped by the restructuring process and by rationalization, which counterbalanced the negative market conditions, according to the company.

The Polish film which has won the Anonimul Film Festival trophy, 'Zero', by Pawel Borowski, will be screened at the Romanian Peasant's Museum between August 17 and 22 in Bucharest. The festival's retrospective will include all the films which were awarded during the festival.

Four babies have died after a blast which took place at Giulesti Maternity hospital in Bucharest last evening. The fire, which started started in the resuscitation unit, was soon after extinguished, but 11 newborn babies were affected. They were one or two days old and premature born. As events unfolded, not all the babies had been identified, while mothers were waiting outside the hospital for news.
