The fourth edition of the Maramureș Balloon Fiesta, a hot air balloon event, will take place between September 28 and October 1 at the Maramureș International Airport, in the Tăuții Măgherăuș locality in Northern Romania’s Maramureș county.

The event is considered the largest one in span in the country. A total of 25 teams from several European countries, including Romania, and 61 hot air balloons will attend this year’s edition. Over 1,000 flights and 20,000 participants are expected at the event, according to the organizers.

Maramureș Balloon Fiesta promotes the “beauty and cultural values of Maramureș.” “It is organized for the inhabitants of Maramureș, but also for the Romanians everywhere, for tourists and foreign visitors. The evolution of these impressive flight devices is an exceptional visual show that cannot be seen anywhere,” Loredana Ionescu, the program's coordinator, said.

The event includes six hot air balloon flight sessions, captive flights, night glow sessions, artistic events, Maramureș-themed parties, thematic exhibitions and many other activities.

The Maramureș County Council is financing the event with RON 50,000 (EUR 11,112).
