Romanian Senate president doesn’t want Govt. restructuring

10 January 2018

Senate president Calin Popescu-Tariceanu, the head of the Alliance of Liberals and Democrats for Europe (ALDE), the Social Democratic Party’s junior coalition leader, has asked the social democrats to leave aside useless talks and focus on the citizens’ agenda.

His reaction came after prime minister Mihai Tudose asked for a significant restructuring of his cabinet, which would involve reducing the number of ministries.

ALDE has four ministers in the Tudose cabinet and doesn’t agree to such a proposal. Moreover, Tariceanu bantered PM Tudose for suggesting that people expected of his cabinet to perform like a Formula 1 car when he was only driving a Trabant.

“It’s best you first learn to drive the Trabant before you start thinking of Formula 1,” Tariceanu, who is also a car and motorcycle collector, said.
