Romania's war veterans, exempted from paying taxes

05 August 2016

War veterans and soldiers who took part in military actions abroad are exempted from paying taxes on buildings, plots, means of transport, and other owned goods, according to the Finance Ministry.

The tax exemption also applies to war widows, persons who were persecuted for political reasons, people deported abroad, and prisoners. War veterans are also exempted from contributing to the health insurance.

Besides the tax facilities, war veterans and war invalids get a bonus of RON 20 (EUR 4.5) per month for the first year of participation in war, plus another RON 5 (EUR 1.1) for every extra month they took part in war abroad.

They also have priority in the housing distribution and rental from the state housing fund.
