Romanian PM suggests 10% wage increase in education, unions not satisfied

23 May 2016

Romania’s Prime Minister Dacian Ciolos has come up with the proposal to increase the salaries in the education sector by 10% starting August 1, 2017, said Anton Hadar, president of the Union Federation “Alma Mater”.

Ciolos also said that it was impossible to do more, because the Government would fail to meet the budget deficit target of 3% of the GDP this year, reports local News.ro.

The unions, however, were not happy with the proposal. Hadar said that the Prime Minister and the unions would meet again this week.

Employees in the public education sector are unhappy with the new law on public sector wages the Government proposed last week. The law grants more salary increases to the public healthcare employees.
