Romanian Dacia Duster included in Top Gear's best cars of the last 20 years

17 September 2013

Romania's Dacia Duster has been ranked among the top 50 cars from the last two decades by famous British magazine Top Gear.

The magazine, which celebrated its 20th anniversary, added the Duster towards the bottom of the ranking, at number 48, outranking only the Opel Ampera and Audi RS2.

The rankings included the Ford GT, Lancia Delta Integrale, Porsche Carrera GT, Ferrari Enzo, Porsche 911 and Bugatti Veyron. More from the ranking here.

British media has been praising Dacia recently. A recent review in The Telegraph, bylined by Neil Lyndon, wrote that 'Dacia – the former Romanian state car manufacturer now owned and supplied by Renault – has been making hay out of answering these austere, essential and reasonable needs.”

Sales of Romania's car brand Dacia went up by 16.5 percent in the first half of the year compared to the same period of 2012, to some 211,000 units.

The results are due to the success of the Duster model and to better sales of the Lodgy and Dokker models, as well as to the new options for Logan and Sandero, according to car maker Renault, the owner of Dacia.

The Dacia brand brought in 16.2 percent of Renault's car sales in the first six months of the year, according to the French group.

The turnover of Group Renault Romania went slightly up last year, to some EUR 3.9 billion, which includes both the Automobile Dacia production unit, its sales division Renault Commercial Roumanie, as well as the divisions that produce gears, engines and other components.

Automobile Dacia brings, however, the largest part of the revenues, EUR 2.85 billion last year. The carmaker's turnover was down 8 percent on the year before, but the drop did not affect the turnover of the group in Romania.
