Romania's Prince Nicolae starts his 11-day charity bike tour across the country on Thursday, April 23. He will pedal over 1,000 kilometers, from the northern city of Sighetu Marmatiei, in Maramures, to the Black Sea port of Constanta, in southeastern Romania.

He will pass through Dej, Cluj-Napoca, Alba Iulia, Sibiu, Brasov, Sinaia, Bucharest and Calarasi, and reach Constanta on May 3.

Prince Nicolae thus tries to raise funds for book donations to poor children and to promote reading and sports in general. He will be accompanied on his journey by Romanian cycling champion Alex Ciocan and by business people and others who may decide to join him on the way.

Prince Nicolae, 29, is the eldest grandson of King Michael and third in line to Romania’s throne, according to the new statute of the Romanian royal family enacted in 2007. He is Princess Elena’s son and Princess Margareta’s nephew.
