Ministry of Defense to organize weekend military pageants in Romanian cities to foster national pride

22 April 2013

The cultural institutions under the umbrella of Romania’s Ministry of National Defense (MApN) will give large public displays in major cities around the country on every weekend, according to the Romanian Defense Minister Mircea Dusa.

“I advise the citizens, mainly in major cities where we have serious military institutions, where we have museums, where we have ensembles, to attend the artistic and cultural activities that we will organize on weekends, on Saturdays and Sundays,” said Mircea Dusa.

In the Minister’s opinion, these kind of cultural events are good especially for the people who can’t afford to buy tickets for shows and the specific military cultural activities should be presented to the general public. “I do not hide the fact that maybe the military institutions should have the most important role in fostering love for Romania’s flag and anthem, thus for the national symbols,” he added.

On Sunday (April 21), the Minister attended a military ceremony, including a concert of the Mihai Viteazul 30th Guard Regiment, organized in Tricolorului square in Bucharest. The military ceremony included weapons handling exercises and MapN’s Representative Band played the national anthem and held a military music concert.
