European Parliament to grant EUR 4 mln support for former steel workers in Romanian factory

The European Parliament could vote in September a project granting Romania EUR 4 million to support employees that have been laid off by steelmaker Mechel Campia Turzii, according to Member of the European Parliament Victor Negrescu.

The financial support for the former steel workers in Campia Turzii has already been discussed in the budget commission of the European Parliament, where Negrescu is a member. He said that he will compile a report on the situation in Campia Turzii and that he hopes to convince the members of the commission to increase the sum by EUR 300,000, according to Mediafax.

About 1,000 persons lost their jobs at  Mechel Campia Turzii. They will benefit from professional reorientation and 250 of them will be hired in a new social enterprise that will produce sports equipment.
