Drunk Romanian breaks into George Clooney’s Italian villa
A drunk Romanian reportedly attempted to break into the Italian villa of Hollywood actor George Clooney, the Italian media has revealed. The 29-year old Romanian jumped over the fence of Clooney’s villa in Laglio, near the lake Como, in Northern Italy, and entered the property’s summer house, where he stole a bottle of alcohol.
He tried to get into the main villa L'Oleandra as well, but one of the employees saw him and alerted the authorities. Clooney was not in the villa at the time, but Italian media expect him and his fiancée, soon to be wife Amal Alamuddin, to arrive at the villa soon. The couple is rumored to get married in Italy in September this year.
Clooney's villa already hosted the wedding of John Krasinski and Emily Blunt in 2010, and appeared in Clooney's "Ocean’s Twelve" 2004 movie.
The Romanian who broke into the actor’s property said it was his birthday and he thought he’d enter the house, according to Italian media. He was looking for money and was ready to set the house on fire, he added. The Italian newspaper revealed the 29-year old Romanian, who was arrested, had a criminal record, and did not have a domicile in Italy. The news made international headlines.
Romanians make one of the largest groups of foreigners who live and work in Italy, most likely exceeding 1 million, according to unofficial statistics.
