Bad weather all across Romania this week, but higher temperatures back next week

02 October 2013

October has kicked off with heavy rain across the country, strong winds and snowfall in high altitude areas, leading to blocked roads.

But the bad weather is not here to last, meteorologists predict.

Come October 7 and temperatures will be again at 20 degrees Celsius during the day, with the warm weather expected to last for about ten days.

Until then, it will continue to rain almost across the entire country, with below average temperatures for this time of the year, which will fall to minus 6 degrees Celsius in depressions and in the mountains.

The week started with Code Orange and Yellow for rain, however authorities don't foresee flooding, even if many large rivers are at the upper end of their capacity.

The extreme weather in the last 48 to 72 hours was partially caused by a cyclone from the Mediterranean Sea, which brought very hot and humid air above Romania, triggering the rain and the high intensity wind, according to meteorologist Mihai Timu, quoted by Digi 24.

On the other hand, there was also cold air coming from Ukraine and Russia, which is why it started to rain in some areas, taking everyone by surprise.

Should the same level of rain fall been recorded in December, when the temperatures are much lower, it would have snowed heavily all across the country, with Bucharest probably covered by a thick layer of snow.
