Authorities expect 25,000 visitors for Romanian Arc de Triomphe after EUR 7 mln modernization

09 February 2012

The Romanian Arc de Triomphe (Arcul de Triumf in Romanian) located next to Herastrau Park in Bucharest will undergo a EUR 7 million renovation, with most of the money coming from non-reimbursable funding. The Bucharest City Hall hopes to attract 25,000 visitors a year after opening the Arc de Triomphe, but doesn't mention a timing for the renovation work.

Bucharest’s Arc de Triomphe, a copy of the famous monument on the Champs Elysee in Paris, is 27 meters high and located at the crossroads between Kiseleff and Constantin Prezan, Alexandru Averescu and Alexandru Constantinescu boulevards. It was built in 1922 and renovated in 1936. The monument commemorates Romania’s victory in the First World War. The official municipalities usually only open the arch to visitors for few days a year.
