Austrian says 'No' to running Romania's state airline Tarom

30 October 2012

Austrian Heinrich Vystoupil, who had been designated general manager of Romania's state airline Tarom after a recruitment process aiming at placing private managers in state companies, gave up on his position soon after being named. Vystoupil, who previously ran Austrian Airlines in Romania, did not accept the conditions of his contract as GM for Tarom. The announcement for his naming came on October 17.

The other members of the Tarom board, all Romanians, signed the contracts and will choose a new general manager from the short list provided after the recruitment process.

Tarom's board is made of banker Dan Pascariu, former astronaut Dumitru Prunariu, former minister Lucian Isar, investor Marius Ghenea, Ciprian Ladunca and Valentin Macec.

The Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure asked PwC, D&B David Baias-George Butunoiu to recruit senior management for companies under the authority of the Ministry with a turnover of less than EUR 7.3 million.

Tarom is the first company under the Ministry of Transport that has announced the new management, selected after an extensive recruitment process, and followed by Maritime Ports Administration and Administration of Navigable Canals. The last two companies have entered into the selection procedures for administrators, but haven’t yet named CEOs.
