Astra Film Festival brings 130 movies to Romania’s Sibiu

This year’s edition of Sibiu International Film Festival – Astra Film Festival will take place in Sibiu between October 5 and October 11. A total of 1,500 movies from 90 countries entered the competition, and 130 of them made it into the festival’s official selection.

Some of the world’s most important directors will be present in Astra Film Festival’s International section, including Joshua Oppenheimer (2014 Oscar nominee), Crystal Moselle (awarded at the 2015 Sundance festival), and Justin Schein.

The Central and Eastern Europe section includes documentaries that present specific topics of general interest for the region, according to information presented on the event’s webpage. The festival’s two other sections are Romania and Student. Find the entire official selection here.

Besides the competitive sections, the festival also has a series of special programs.

This year’s edition of the event will take place under EFFE - Europe for Festivals, Festivals for Europe, a distinction given to the most outstanding European festivals by an international jury of experts.
