After Boom TV acquisition, Romtelecom buys Akta Satelit

29 March 2011

Romanian telecom operator Romtelecom has signed an agreement to buy direct-to-home satellite TV brand Akta Satelit from Digital Cable Systems SA, according to the company. The total price of the transaction will be determined by the number of customers actually taken over from DCS. Digital Cable System had in 2010 a total of 180,000 subscribers to its analog and digital cable services and 70,000 subscribers to its satellite television.

Founded in 2005 by the merger of several cable companies, Digital Cable System (DCS) provides telecommunications services on the Romanian market. DCS' portfolio contains the brands Akta, aimed exclusively at individual consumers and Dial Telecom, dedicated to the business segment. Akta provides telephony services, Internet, cable and satellite television.

Romtelecom also took over Boom TV platform in February this year, for which it made the offer of EUR 8 million. Boom TV had 95,000 subscribers and entered insolvency last summer.
