Romanian President Klaus Iohannis will address the Parliament on Tuesday, at 12:00, Senate president Calin Popescu-Tariceanu announced on Monday.

“We discussed about including the Romanian President’s request to address the Parliament on Tuesday’s agenda. We decided 12:00, according to the request made by the President,” Tariceanu said, reports local Agerpres.

At the end of last week, Klaus Iohannis sent a letter to the two Chambers’ presidents, in which he expressed his desire to address the Parliament this week. He is to speak about the recent political events in Romania, which led to massive protests across the country.

Over half a million Romanians took to the streets on Sunday evening, asking the Government’s resignation. The protests started last Tuesday after the Government adopted a controversial emergency ordinance on amending the Penal Code during a meeting held around 21:00. The protests continued although the Government decided to repeal the ordinance.
