19 March 2018

Romania’s Health Ministry will set up eight regional screening centers for cervical and breats cancer so that every woman has access to this service, health minister Sorina Pintea said on Friday, March 16.

Romania will access EUR 21 million worth of EU funds for breast cancer screening programs and EUR 45 million for cervical cancer screening, she added, according to local Hotnews.ro.

“We have signed contracts for five screening centers. We will sign three more with money coming from the World Bank. We must first populate these centers and we need doctors and specialists,” Pintea said.

The program is in an advanced stage and should become operational by the end of this year.

The health minister also pointed out that there are many medical specialties for which Romania doesn’t have doctors or training centers.
