Romanian Ministry of Education extends registration period for baccalaureate exam

31 May 2023

Romania’s Ministry of Education has extended the registration period for candidates for the June-July session of the national Baccalaureate exam until June 9 of this year. The deadline for finalizing the academic situation for students in their final year will also be extended until this date.

The ministry, cited by HotNews, also stated that these changes will not affect the schedule for the Baccalaureate 2023 exam or the National Evaluation 2023 in any way. The move comes "to support pre-university educational institutions in carrying out end-of-school-year activities, which concern graduates of the 12th grade and the part-time 13th grade," according to the official announcement.

As a result, students in the 12th grade, 13th-grade night classes, and part-time students can register for the June-July session of the baccalaureate exam by June 9, 2023, according to the Ministry of Education's statement. The extension can be seen as a response to the ongoing teachers’ strike.

The ministry highlights that these changes "do not affect the schedule for the assessment of competencies or the written exams within the Baccalaureate 2023 exam, nor the schedule for the written exams of the National Evaluation for 8th-grade graduates."

The schedule for this year's Baccalaureate exam was originally planned to begin on May 29, with the opening of candidate registrations for the first session. The written exams were scheduled to start on June 26. The final results for the first session will be posted on July 7.
