Romania, focus country at 2018 Leipzig Book Fair

06 March 2018

Romania is the focus country of this year’s Leipzig Book Fair, set to take place between March 15 and March 18.

Under the headline Zoom in Romania, the local cultural scene will be presented in over 50 events. A total of 40 new translations will be available for the first time at the fair.

The Romanian film will also be showcased within a dedicated Romanian Film Days event, while the public will also get to meet the Romanian-born German novelist Herta Müller, the recipient of a Nobel Prize in Literature in 2009, and the Romanian musician Ada Milea.

Beginning with March 7, the Embassy of Germany in Bucharest will showcase a banner on the embassy’s building wishing Romania good luck at the fair. Also on March 7, ambassador Cord Meier-Klodt will receive the Romanian authors who attend the fair.

Romania was previously a guest country at the Leipzig Book Fair in 1998.

The fair gathers each year 2,400 exhibitors from 40 countries, and attracts a public of 200,000 visitors.
