Minimum salary may increase on November 1 in Romania

Romania’s Labor Ministry is working on a draft bill to increase the minimum gross salary starting November 1 this year.

“After analyzing the data provided by the Prognosis Commission, the Labor Ministry has been working on increasing the minimum wage in the economy starting the end of this year and differentiating the minimum wage based on studies or seniority of over 15 years,” labor minister Lia Olguta Vasilescu wrote on Facebook on Saturday, October 20, according to local Mediafax.

She also posted a document that provides the ministry’s proposal is to increase the minimum gross wage in the economy to RON 2,080 (EUR 446) starting November 1, 2018. For employees working on positions that require upper education, the minimum gross salary will be RON 2,350 (EUR 504). The same minimum wage will apply to employees with a seniority of over 15 years.

The current minimum gross wage in Romania is RON 1,900 (EUR 408) and applies to all employees, regardless of their education or seniority.
