US company IBM company could open a new research center in Targu Mures, central Romania, the company's 11th worldwide center. IBM executive director Spiros Teleoglou and IBM Research executive director Christos J. Georgiou paid a visit to Targu Mures last week and talked about this possibility with the city hall representatives.

Sushi- the Japanese word meaning ''sour''- was a dish invented in Japan in the Muromachi period around the mid 1300's, and in those times it was made from fermented fish. The Sushi we eat today, which is internationally recognised and enjoyed, was created in the Edo period in the early 1800's by a man called Hanaya Yohei as a fast food. I would thank him personally if he were still alive! Sushi is a personal favourite which I developed a taste for whilst living in the Far East.

Romanian lender Banca Transilvania posted a net profit of EUR 23.2 million in 2010, 58 percent higher than the one posted in 2009, the bank has announced. The increase was mainly due to revenues from interests and to the strict cost control, according to the bank.

A local version of the Walk of Fame boulevard has been inaugurated in Bucharest, on the sidewalk near the Cocor shopping center downtown the Romanian capital city. The first star on the Romanian Walk of Fame is that of Romanian actor Florin Piersic.

Romanian newspaper Adevarul, part of the Adevarul media holding owned by businessman Dinu Patriciu, has opened an editorial office in Brussels. It was the first office opened by a Romanian publication in Brussels, following the model used by international media companies like BBC and Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung.

Romanian furniture producer and retailer Staer has started the insolvency procedures, according to Elva Cont, the judiciary administrator. Staer owns a furniture factory in Galati as well as a chain of 24 furniture stores across Romania.
