Gopo 2022: Romanian film awards open fundraiser for Ukrainian filmmakers

05 April 2022

The Gopo Awards, the event awarding the achievements of local cinema, has opened a fundraising campaign aimed at supporting Ukrainian filmmakers.

The funds raised in the campaign will be distributed to Ukrainian film professionals with the help of the International Coalition for Filmmakers at Risk (ICFR), a body established by the European Film Academy together with the International Film Festival Rotterdam and the International Documentary Film Festival Amsterdam.

ICFR has launched an Emergency Fund for Filmmakers for film practitioners in danger due to the ongoing war in Ukraine. The fund aims to help filmmakers with small grants to be able to assist in covering temporary relocation expenses, legal and administrative fees (visas etc.) and to cover minor but necessary expenses required during the current situation.

Film professionals and fans can donate via text message, amounting to EUR 2 (FILM to 8840).

This year’s Gopo Awards are scheduled to take place on May 3, at the National Theater in Bucharest. The event will be streamed live on the platforms Voyo, TIFF Unlimited, and on the event’s website.

The films nominated this year in the Best European Film category will be shown online this weekend, between April 8 and April 10, on TIFF Unlimited. The films can be viewed free of charge for 24 hours. The nominated films in this category are Albert Dupontel’s Adieu les cons, Thomas Vinterberg’s Another Round, Régis Roinsard’s Les traducteurs, Leos Carax’s Annette, and Céline Sciamma’s Portrait de la jeune fille en feu.

The full list of nominations is available here.
