One in every 10 people arrested in Paris is a Romanian immigrant, according to France’s Interior Minister Claude Gueant, quoted by Daily Mail. Moreover, half of them are children, according to his statement. About 4,800 Romanians were detained during the first half of 2011 in France, compared to 2,500 over the same period in 2010.

In June, Gueant claimed that the vast majority of street robberies in Paris are by the children of Romanian immigrants. “Romanian crime is a crime that is difficult to fight because of one aspect that is extremely cruel: it frequently uses minors,” said Claude Gueant, quoted by Daily Mail. Most of them operate in gangs around the Gare du Nord Eurostar station, preying on British travellers who arrive by high-speed train from London, Daily Mail notes.
