Documentary about Norwegian figure skating champion, shot in Eastern Romania city

Queen of Ice, a documentary telling the story of the famous Norwegian skater and actress Sonja Henie, will be filmed at Dunarea skating rink in Galati, a city in Eastern Romania, between September 4 and September 13.

The producers are currently looking for 1,800 extras for the film, according to a press release from Galati City Hall, cited by local News.ro. Each person will be paid RON 60 per day, and those interested can register at the Dunarea ice skating rink in the city until Saturday this week.

The Galati skating rink is under the administration of the “Sportul Galatean” Foundation, established by the City Hall. The producers of the Queen of Ice documentary paid a total of RON 35,000 (over EUR 7,600) to rent the skating rink, according to information from City Hall representatives.

Sonja Henie was a Norwegian figure skater and film star. She was a three-time Olympic Champion – in 1928, 1932, and 1936 in Ladies’ Singles, a ten-time World Champion (1927–1936) and a six-time European Champion (1931–1936).
