Around 100 of the most powerful people in the world attended the Trilateral Commission's European meeting, held in the Romanian capital city between October 15 and 17. It was for the first time Romania hosted the event of the commission, which is often referred to as the world shadow government.

The Romanian state should seek to recover the fiscal debt from companies through the partnership with private companies, which would get a fee of the recovered amount, said Romanian president Traian Basescu in a TV show on Sunday morning. This would increase the volume of recovered taxes by the Romanian state and would also fuel revenues to the private sector.

The local Domino's Pizza franchise, owned by Radacini Group, has expanded with a second unit in Bucharest, in the Obor area of the capital city, Romania-insider.com has learned. The company has recently opened this second Domino's Pizza outlet on Ferdinand boulevard, after opening the first unit in Pipera earlier this year.

The oil and gas market in Romania and in the region will get back to the 2008 level in three or four years, when the demand will return to that level, according to Mosonyi Gyorgy, president of the board with Hungarian oil company Mol. The company will continue to expand its distribution network in Romania, its representative has said.

Tens of teachers in capital Bucharest staged a spontaneous protest Thursday evening and decided to head for the headquarters of the Education Ministry where they will stay until Education Minister Daniel Funeriu (in picture) resigns. The decision to start a spontaneous protest was taken by education union federation leaders during a meeting Thursday evening.

Romania’s Finance Minister Gheorghe Ialomitianu on Thursday told ministry employees protesting over unpaid bonuses that bonuses for August and September would be paid, but only after a commission of unionists and ministry officials analyzes how they are granted.

Low cost airline Wizz Air transported 1.6 million passengers on flights to and from Romania in the first nine months of the year, with an airplane load factor of 86 percent, the company has announced. The company's profit margin in Romania is of 4 to 5 percent, said its vice-president John Stephenson. Romania is one of the company's most successful markets, said Stephenson, who thinks the airline industry is coming out of the crisis.
