Alstom to deliver trains for new Bucharest subway line starting August

19 May 2023

The first of the 13 trains for Line 5 of the Bucharest subway will be delivered by Alstom from its assembly plant in Brazil in August this year – some 14 months later than expected, Economica.net reported.

The French company will deliver a total of 13 trains for the new line that is partly completed but currently served by the existing fleet of Metrorex.

The operator of the Bucharest subway network Metrorex signed in 2020 the contract for 13 trains. The value of the contract exceeds EUR 100 mln, but the agreement can be extended with the option of delivering another 17 trains, based on an order from the beneficiary, and the total value of the project can go up to EUR 240 mln.

The Metropolis metro trains from Alstom have been in operation for over 20 years worldwide, among the company's 60 customers being metro operators from Paris, New York, London, Amsterdam, Singapore, Riyadh, Dubai, Sydney, and Montreal.
