Almost 60,000 households in Romania still without electricity after blizzard

24 April 2017

Some 60,000 households in Romania were disconnected from the power grid on Sunday, half compared to the previous day, when there were 120,000 such cases, according to energy minister Toma Petcu.

The problems were caused by the unexpected blizzard that hit Romania last week, which caused more damages to the electricity networks than the blizzards in January.

The most affected region was Moldova, in Eastern Romania, where almost 500 villages were left in the dark. On Sunday, most households without electricity were in Galati and Vaslui, where the blizzard hit hardest.
