Wealthy Romanian Ion Tiriac puts large collection of rare personal cars on display

18 November 2013

Romanian businessman and former tennis player Ion Tiriac, one of Romania's richest men, will open an exhibition of his personal cars at the end of November in Bucharest.

Located in the former Metro Otopeni platform in the Northern part of Bucharest, the collection will include 65 cars, some of which very rare.

Tiriac, who controls the car importers for Jaguar, Land Rover, Range Rover, Hyundai, and also sells Ford and Mercedes Benz through its Tiriac Auto centers in Romania, is passionate about cars. His collection includes one of the only 17 Rolls-Royce Phantom IV ever produced, which is estimated at EUR 1.5 million.

Tiriac's collection is four times bigger than what will be showcased in Bucharest, and the items exhibited will be changed once every three months. Tiriac gathered the rare cars after taking part in international bids, thus completing his 250-car collection, which includes brands such as Rolls Royce, Bentley, Mercedes, Morgan and Ferrari.

His collection includes the six Phantom cars produced since the 60s, including the Phantom 4 which had been sold only to royals. Among the most valuable are the York Duchess' former Rolls Royce and a Mustang which Tiriac bought at an auction in 1969. All of the cars, on display starting November 29, are functional and are maintained by a specialized team.
