Vodafone ups revenues in Romania

Telecom group Vodafone had 8.8 million customers in Romania at June 30, 2015, 233,838 more than in the same period the previous year (the first quarter of 2014/2015 fiscal year). Of this total, 8.18 million were mobile clients.

The company reported service revenues of EUR 166.8 million for the quarter ended on June 30, up 5.7% year-on-year on an organic basis.

Mobile postpaid clients represented 41.4% of the total mobile base while prepaid customers had a share of 58.6%. Mobile prepaid base as a percentage of total mobile base increased by 0.4 percentage points as compared to the previous quarter, according to a company statement.

Data usage rose by 128.7% in the quarter ended June 30, compared to the same period the previous year.

“Our continuous investments in the network deliver strong results and the first quarter of the year showed that data usage more than doubled, while smartphone sales grew by over 40% on the year,” said Ravinder Takkar, CEO, Vodafone Romania.

Vodafone Romania is part of Vodafone Group Plc. Its main competitors on the local market are Orange and Deutsche Telekom.
