Strong marketing move by Vodafone in Romania: Free internet for everyone!

03 September 2015

Vodafone Romania, the country’s second-biggest mobile carrier in terms of clients, will offer two days of free and unlimited access to mobile internet services to all of its clients, regardless of the service packages they use. The company will also provide two days of free internet access to non-clients, in an attempt to get more subscribers for its Supernet 4G service, launched one year ago.

“For two days, our over eight million users can benefit from the Supernet 4G experience without extra costs and without any limits. We will offer them the biggest free internet experience in Romania,” said Andrea Rossini, Consumer Business Unit Director with Vodafone Romania.

Vodafone clients will be able to use the internet services for free on September 12-13. The non-clients will also be able to access the internet for free, for two days, after September 14. To do this, they will have to get a free Vodafone sim card from the company’s outlets, according to Vodafone representatives quoted by Agerpres.

Vodafone launched its Supernet 4G data service in September 2014. The service currently covers 2,500 towns and villages, including Romania’s top 100 cities.

“Since September last year, when we launched Supernet 4G, we have registered significant growth. The 4G technology has become more accessible, and we currently have over one million 4G terminals connected to our network,” said Giovanni Chiarelli, Technology Director, Vodafone Romania. He added that data traffic has been growing at an impressive rate in the last year.

“Compared to September 2014, the total data traffic in our network increased by 132% and 4G data traffic went up 15 times in the same period.”

Starting September 2014, Vodafone users have watched over 60 million hours of streamed video content, according to company data. Download and upload speeds have also increased by 110% and 61% respectively.
