The number of Romanians whose homes are connected to sewerage systems increased by 2.4% last year, reaching 9.7 million.

This represented 49.1% of Romania’s resident population, according to the National Statistics Institute (INS).

In 2015, 9.47 million Romanians had their homes connected to sewerage networks, accounting for 47.7% of the country’s resident population.

The length of the sewerage network in Romania extended by 2,651 km to 34,353 km last year. Moreover, the length of the drinking water distribution network was 79,678 km at the end of last year, up 2,733 km over the end of 2015.
