30 June 2014

Seven historic monuments in Romania’s capital are being revamped this summer, including the Gabroveni Inn in Bucharest’s Old Town, which is close to opening, according to Bucharest mayor Sorin Oprescu.

The Triumphal Arch, the Nicolae Minovici Museum, the Astronomical Observatory and the Cesianu House will be revamped with European funds.

Consolidation and rehabilitation work conducted at Bucharest’s Triumphal Arch is 25 percent done and it should be completed by end-2015.

The construction site is being set these days at the Nicolae Minovici Museum. During the process, the building will be consolidated and restored and the courtyard will be arranged.

“This is a monument older than 109 years. It will again be included in the tourist circuit next year,” said Oprescu in a press conference on Sunday, June 29.

The revamping of Cesianu House started in November last year and is now 50 percent done.

The rehabilitation work at the Astronomical Observatory will start in July this year and the work is scheduled to be completed in April 2015.

The State Jewish Theater in Bucharest is also one of the historic buildings to be revamped. The modernization of the Bucharest City Hall headquarters continues this summer, this building also being a historic monument.

Formerly derelict historic Gabroveni Inn in Bucharest’s Old Town becomes cultural center this summer.

Mayor: Bucharest’s Triumphal Arch should be revamped by December 2015.
